My grandfather says that life was much simpler when he was young. People walked more often because cars were less common. Neighbours knew each other better, and communities were closer than they are today.
Children played outside more frequently. They were more creative because they had fewer electronic toys. My grandfather was always amazed by the games they invented with just a ball and some sticks.
Communication was more personal in those days. People wrote letters more carefully than we send emails today. Phone calls were more expensive, so families spoke more briefly. However, my grandfather believes that those conversations were often more meaningful.
He admits that some things were harder. Medical care was less advanced, and travel was much slower. But he is convinced that people were generally happier and more aware of what really mattered in life.
